Machine guideBobcat T766 min read

Ordering new tracks for a Bobcat T76 starts with the track size. This guide gives the Bobcat T76 track size in each width we list, shows how to confirm the fit, explains the signs of worn rubber tracks and covers the T76 idlers, bottom rollers and sprockets to check while the tracks are off.

The short answer

  • The Bobcat T76 track is listed with an 86 mm pitch and 53 links in two widths: 400 x 86 x 53B and 450 x 86 x 53B.
  • Both widths have a C-lug tread and are sold per track. Order the width on your machine now.
  • At a track change, check the 2 idlers, the 8 bottom rollers and the drive sprockets.

Which T76 track width to order

Pitch and link count are the same on both sizes. Only the width changes.

The width you need is the width on your machine now. The quickest check is the size molded on the side of the old track. If it has worn off, measure across the track. A reading close to 400 mm (15.7 in) or 450 mm (17.7 in) tells you which one to order. If you are thinking about changing width, talk to us before you order.

How to measure a T76 track

If the size is still readable on your old track, use it. If it has worn off, three measurements give you the size:

1

Width

Measure straight across the track from one edge to the other. On a T76 track this should read 400 mm (15.7 in) or 450 mm (17.7 in).

2

Pitch

Pitch is the distance from the center of one link to the center of the next. On the T76 track this should read 86 mm.

3

Links

The link count is the number of drive lugs around the inside of the track. The T76 track has 53.

Put the three numbers together, width x pitch x links, and you have the size. Our guide to measuring rubber tracks shows each step with diagrams.

Four checks before you order T76 tracks

1

Match the size

Compare the size on your old track, or your own measurements, with the table above. Pitch should be 86 mm and the link count 53. If either is different, stop and check before you order.

2

Confirm the width

Choose the same width as the track on the machine now: 400 mm or 450 mm.

3

Confirm the model

Check the model on the machine’s plate. Bobcat model codes can differ by a single character, and each model has its own listing in our catalog. If you are not sure, contact us with the model and serial number and we will check.

4

Check the undercarriage

New tracks on a worn undercarriage wear out sooner. Before you order, look at the idlers, bottom rollers and sprockets using the checks further down this page.

Our advice

Getting the size right first time is the quickest way back to work. If anything does not match, talk to the team before you order, so you maximize machine uptime and avoid a return.

Signs your T76 tracks are worn

These are the checks we recommend on any tracked loader, and they apply to the T76.

The track will not hold tension

If the slack keeps coming back after you re-tension, the cause is not always the track. Check the sprockets and the track adjuster too. A track adjuster with failed piston seals cannot hold tension. Here is how to check rubber track tension. Your machine’s operator’s manual gives the correct tension figure for the T76.

The track slips or jumps on the sprocket

Sharp, worn sprocket teeth no longer hold the track cleanly. The track can slip or jump through the sprocket, and that shock load also reaches the final drive. If you see or hear the track jumping, stop and inspect the sprockets before you carry on.

Cuts, missing lugs or exposed cords

Deep cuts, missing lugs and steel cords showing through the rubber all mean the track is near the end of its life. A track in that state can fail without much warning, so plan the replacement rather than waiting for it.

The tracks wear out early

If a set of T76 tracks has worn out well ahead of the last set, look at the sprockets, idlers and rollers before you fit new tracks. Material packing between the sprocket teeth, rollers and track also speeds up wear, so keep the undercarriage clean. Our guide to spotting a worn sprocket shows what to look for, and these five tips to extend rubber track life cover the other common causes.

Operating habits that shorten track life

How the machine is driven matters as much as the parts. Avoid spinning the tracks, unnecessary reversing, high travel speed when it is not needed, and always turning in the same direction. Each one adds wear to the tracks and to the sprockets that drive them.

T76 idlers, rollers and sprockets to check at a track change

With the track off, every part of the undercarriage is easy to see. That makes a track change the best time to inspect it. Here is what our catalog lists for the T76 undercarriage:

Part Per machine Weight each
Idler 2 25.5 kg (56.2 lb)
Bottom roller 8 26.9 kg (59.3 lb)

Idlers

Idlers guide the track around the ends of the track frame and work with the track adjuster to keep the track at the right tension. Our catalog lists 2 per T76. Check for worn running surfaces, damaged flanges and oil leaks. If an idler is coming off, it is also the easiest time to check or replace the track adjuster.

Bottom rollers

Bottom rollers run along the underside of the track frame and carry the weight of the machine on the track. Our catalog lists 8 per T76. Look for flat spots, worn flanges, oil leaks and rollers that no longer turn. We advise changing bottom rollers as a set: a single new roller sits proud of the worn ones and wears faster. Our guide to bottom rollers and carrier rollers explains the difference.

Drive sprockets

The sprocket bolts to the final drive, and its teeth engage the track to move the machine. We do not currently list a T76 sprocket online, but the sprockets still need checking at every track change. Sprocket wear is hard to judge by eye, so compare your sprocket with an unused one of the same type. Wear builds faster in reverse and at higher travel speeds. Fitting new tracks to worn sprockets risks the slipping and early wear described above.

Our advice

If the idlers, rollers or sprockets show wear, replace them with the tracks. That way it is one job and one round of downtime, and the new tracks start on a sound undercarriage.

FAQ

What size tracks does a Bobcat T76 take?+

Our catalog lists the Bobcat T76 track in two widths, both with an 86 mm pitch and 53 links: 400 x 86 x 53B and 450 x 86 x 53B. Order the width your machine runs now.

How wide are Bobcat T76 tracks?+

The T76 tracks in our catalog are 400 mm (15.7 in) or 450 mm (17.7 in) wide. Measure your old track, or read the size on it, to confirm which width you need.

What does 450 x 86 x 53B mean on a T76 track?+

It is the track size, written width x pitch x number of links. A 450 x 86 x 53B track is 450 mm wide, has an 86 mm pitch and has 53 links.

What tread are Bobcat T76 tracks?+

Both T76 tracks in our catalog have a C-lug tread. If you need a different tread for your work, contact us with the machine details and we will check what we can supply.

Are Bobcat T76 tracks sold individually?+

Yes. We sell T76 tracks individually, and the price shown is for one track.

How many idlers and bottom rollers does a Bobcat T76 have?+

Our catalog lists 2 idlers and 8 bottom rollers per machine for the Bobcat T76.

Do you sell a sprocket for the Bobcat T76?+

We do not currently list a T76 sprocket online. Check the sprockets at every track change all the same, and contact us with your machine details and serial number if you need one.

How do I know when my T76 tracks need replacing?+

Common signs are a track that will not hold tension, a track that slips or jumps on the sprocket, and tracks that wear out much faster than the last set. Check the sprockets, idlers, bottom rollers and track adjuster at the same time, because worn parts underneath shorten the life of new tracks.
